Closure Ceremony of Balakot Hydropower Project marks major milestone in Pakistan’s clean energy journey

The closure ceremony of the Balakot Hydropower Project, a landmark initiative of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was held today to celebrate a major step forward in Pakistan’s renewable energy development. The project, executed by the China Energy Engineering Group (Energy China) through its subsidiary Gezhouba Third Engineering Co., Ltd., will produce 300 megawatts (MW) of clean and green energy upon completion.

The ceremony was attended by senior representatives from both sides, including Mr. Mao Huigang, Executive General Manager of China Energy Engineering Group EPC Company and General Manager of Gezhouba Third Engineering Co., Ltd., and Mr. Li Lipei, Project Manager of the Balakot Project Department.

Speaking on the occasion, the representatives reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan–China cooperation in the energy sector and promoting sustainable development through renewable power projects.

The Balakot Hydropower Project will not only enhance Pakistan’s energy security but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions and supporting the country’s transition toward a greener economy.
