Zamzam water system upgraded to improve Hajj services in Grand Mosque

MAKKAH, May 22 (APP): The General Authority responsible for the affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has initiated special measures to further modernise and enhance the Zamzam water distribution system at the Grand Mosque to improve services for pilgrims during the Hajj season of 1447 AH.

According to the authority, the initiative aims to increase the capacity of Zamzam drinking stations and expand service points to ensure faster, more organised and efficient water distribution in view of the growing number of pilgrims and visitors.

Officials said the project is designed to reduce water wastage, ensure rapid supply during peak hours and maintain uninterrupted, high-quality services across the Grand Mosque and its surrounding courtyards.

The authority stated that 169 Zamzam drinking stations are currently operational at the Grand Mosque, while approximately 14,892 cold and hot water containers are used daily.

It added that more than 2.146 million cups are provided every day for worshippers and visitors. The average daily consumption of Zamzam water has reached 1,622 cubic metres.

To maintain water quality and safety standards, the authority said around 70 samples are tested daily.

According to the statement, an advanced operational system has also been introduced to continuously monitor demand and requirements at different locations to further improve the distribution mechanism and ensure uninterrupted services.

The General Authority said the new measures are expected to reduce congestion at Zamzam stations, improve visitor movement inside the Grand Mosque and strengthen a sustainable service system, providing pilgrims with a more comfortable and organised environment.
